PHOENIX, AZ — The leftovers of Tropical Storm Nora, which moved up the western coast of Mexico this week, are likely to bring heavy rain to Phoenix Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service warns of significant potential for flooding in washes, streets, highways, underpasses and low-lying areas. There is a flash flood watch in effect for the greater Phoenix area from 11 a.m. Tuesday until early Thursday morning.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely before midnight Tuesday, with an 80 percent chance of rain in the Phoenix metro area. New rainfall of between a quarter and a half-inch are possible. The expected low Tuesday night is a cool 78 degrees.

Showers and possibly thunderstorms are also likely on Wednesday, before 11 a.m., with the possibility of continuing rain after 11 a.m. The chance of rain during the day is 70 percent, with a 40 percent chance Wednesday night. The expected high on Wednesday is 92 degrees.
