Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:

  1. Despite the City of Phoenix's cleanup efforts, the number of homeless people has increased. According to Phoenix officials, indoor shelter is available for residents who volunteer to accept it. Although some individuals have accepted the offers and are making progress toward finding employment and permanent housing, the homeless encampment population in the Zone has grown, leading to a lawsuit filed against the city by the Fund for Empowerment. Phoenix intends to continue the cleanups while seeking compliance with a Superior Court Judge's order. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
  2. Banner Health and the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix are joining forces to address the physician shortage in Arizona by increasing residency and fellowship positions. By expanding its Graduate Medical Education programs, the partnership plans to add 229 additional positions by 2027, resulting in a more than 60 percent increase in specialty-trained physicians. This collaboration aims to retain highly trained medical professionals within the state and improve access to primary care, while also introducing new programs in various specialties to meet the growing healthcare needs of Arizona's communities. 3. A Florida couple's vacation in Arizona turned into a heartbreaking ordeal when their dogs were allegedly stolen from their temporary rental home near 12th Street and Dunlap Avenue. Travis Hutchinson and Shirly Viera are desperately seeking information and have put up posters in the neighborhood, offering a $3,000 cash reward for the safe return of their beloved pets. The couple emphasized that their animals are irreplaceable and are determined to stay in the state until they are reunited with them, despite the mounting financial burden.
