Here are the top stories in Phoenix today:

  1. A new cutting-edge cancer-detection technology is available completely free to Phoenix police and firefighters, thanks to a partnership between the city and Vincere Cancer Center. The early-detection test is called "Galleri." The city is hoping the test will save lives with cases of occupational cancer on the rise. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
  2. Sky Harbor's Compassion Cacti program aims to give travelers with hidden disabilities some extra assistance. The program provides special lanyards to people with hidden disabilities to help airport staff identify them. Anyone with dementia or who is traveling with someone who has dementia can apply for the program to get some extra assistance at the airport. (KJZZ)
  3. Phoenix restaurant Tratto earned a coveted spot on the New York Times "2021 Restaurant List." Tratto was founded by award-winning chef Chris Bianco. The restaurant prepares food and drinks in collaboration with farmers, ranchers, millers and local artisans. (Phoenix Patch)
  4. Single-family homebuilding permits in Phoenix trended down over the summer, even though they were still almost 30 percent higher than this time last year. They've been on a downward trend since June. (ABC15 Arizona)
