PHOENIX — A suspect has died following an officer-involved shooting in Glendale Friday morning. The incident took place as Glendale Police Department detectives attempted to arrest the man for an alleged armed robbery.

The incident took place outside of a QuikTrip gas station near 27th Avenue and Camelback Road, police said. Detectives were following up on a carjacking that had occurred earlier in the week and traced the stolen car to the convenience store. They approached the suspect as he exited the QuikTrip and walked towards the stolen vehicle.

As the detectives went to arrest him, the suspect knocked one detective to the ground and climbed on top of him, reaching his hands behind his back towards his waistband. A second detective at the scene fired his gun at the suspect.
