Here are the top three stories today in Yuma:
- Yuma reportedly has an unemployment rate above 13 percent. This rate is significantly higher than the national average rate of 3.6 percent. Yuma's rate is even higher than the 10 percent national average experienced during the Great Recession. If the United States economy continues to struggle, Yuma's high unemployment rate will likely spread to the rest of the country. (24/7 Wall Street)
- Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich visited Yuma on Thursday to tour the border. During his visit, he touted his close relationship with the Yuma County Sheriff. During an interview with KYMA, Brnovich spoke of the federal lawsuit that extended Title 42 that his office reportedly led. (KYMA)
- Yuma County's Guillermina Fuentes, 66, pleaded guilty to participating in an illegal scheme of collecting ballots during the 2020 Primary Election. The plea was part of an agreement with state prosecutors to dismiss the most serious charges and limit the potential for a lengthy prison sentence. Fuentes will now be sentenced on Jun. 30. (WRAL)
