Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:
- A woman spent 18 hours fighting to stay alive in a canal near Yuma after jumping in to save her dog. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Jun. 7. The woman survived by clinging to a tree. She was eventually rescued by the Wellton Police Department and the Yuma County Sheriff's Department. (The Sacramento Bee)
- The son of former Dodgers player Steve Sax was one of the five Marines killed near Yuma in the Osprey crash. His 33-year-old son died during the training flight crash that occurred in the California desert about 50 miles outside of Yuma. Capt. John J. Sax reportedly wanted to be a pilot from a young age and his passion was to fly. (Sports Illustrated)
- A disabled Yuma resident speaks out about how a lack of public transportation deeply impacts his life. Yuma's Marcos Castillo is optimistic, however, after Arizona receives $884 million for new infrastructure through President Biden's infrastructure law.
