Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  1. The comment period for a Class II Air Quality Renewal Permit for Yuma's Gowan Milling, LLC has officially begun. The agricultural pesticide formulation mixing facility is seeking a permit renewal with the comment period ending on Jul. 7. The facility reportedly releases various air contaminants such as nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide. (ADEQ)
  2. Yuma growers are attempting to bring industrial hemp production to the desert. The plant was grown in Yuma in the 1800s and the early 1900s. U of A Cooperative Extension has been conducting trials over the last three years to find the best strain to grow in Yuma. (KYMA)
  3. The first confirmed case of Monkeypox has been identified in Arizona. The Maricopa Health Department reports that a patient in his late 30s contracted the virus and is currently in isolation. According to health officials, the best way to prevent the spread of Monkeypox is to simply wash hands thoroughly. (Patch)
