Here are the top three stories in Yuma today:

  1. Arizona's Board of Education is considering new guidelines on how instructors are able to digitally communicate with students. The new guidelines are in response to several misconduct investigations — one involving a Yuma teacher messaging a 17-year-old student through Snapchat. The guidelines were directed by Arizona lawmakers. Click the following link to read the full guidelines. (12 News)
  2. The University of Arizona is testing how to grow crops with less water. The test is interesting to Yuma because of a water shortage caused by the Colorado River. The trial will be using watermelon as its test crop. The group will be conducting a field day today, Jun. 16, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for those interested in seeing the trial results. (KYMA)
  3. Colorado River Basin states have about eight more weeks to decide on water conservation levels. The federal Bureau of Reclamation is asking the states to conserve two to four million acre-feet of water to prevent critically low levels in 2023. If Arizona faces the brunt of the cuts, then Yuma will be severely impacted in its vegetable and salad green production. The country relies on Yuma for its supply in the winter months. (AZ Central)
