Burglary, Theft Suspects Arrested In Alameda

Police said an alleged home burglar and two shoplifting suspects were arrested in over a 24-hour period.

ALAMEDA, CA — Alameda officers nabbed suspects in three separate burglary and theft cases early this week and returned the items to their rightful owners, according to police.

The first incident happened just before 6 p.m. Sunday on Alameda Avenue. Police said officers arrived within 90 seconds at the scene of an active home burglary and found the suspect as they attempted to leave the house. The alleged culprit was arrested on suspicion of burglary and for two outstanding warrants.

The next day, police investigated two thefts at the South Shore Center.

In the first, police said a suspect tried to flee with stolen merchandise in a car, which soon became inoperable and eventually caught fire. The Alameda Fire Department extinguished the car and officers arrested the suspect and returned the stolen items to the store.

Later in the afternoon, another business in the shopping center reported a theft in progress. Police said officers found the suspect trying to leave the area with stolen goods a few minutes later. They were arrested on suspicion of theft with four outstanding warrants.

"The swift response and teamwork from our patrol officers prevented these incidents from escalating and ensured stolen property was returned to its rightful owners," police said. "As part of our ongoing efforts to combat crime, Alameda PD continues to strategically position patrol resources in key areas."
