Over 1,500 Illegal Fireworks Found In Storage Unit: Alameda Police

ALAMEDA, CA — A tip led Alameda police to seize the largest number of illegal fireworks to be found in the county so far this year from a storage unit in the city, according to authorities.
The police department received a tip about fireworks being illegally sold out of a storage facility in Alameda, and detectives uncovered a second unit containing over 1,500 illegal fireworks, including professional-grade explosives, authorities said.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called in to remove and transport the material for destruction, according to police.
“The bomb squad has confirmed this is the largest illegal firework seizure in Alameda County so far this year,” police said Thursday in a social media post about the seizure, noting many cities in the area will host professional firework shows around the Fourth of July.

“Fireworks are prohibited in the City of Alameda. Improper storage and handling of these items pose a serious risk to fire, injury, and death. Unauthorized use of these devices can also be distressing to veterans, pets, and community members with sensory sensitivities.”
