• Prolific retail thief sentenced in Sonoma County, linked to others across Bay Area (marinij.com) — A Bay Area retail theft spree that included incidents in Alameda County has led to a five-year prison sentence for a Richmond man in Sonoma County. Prosecutors say he was tied to more than 80 thefts across 11 counties, targeting big-box retailers and home improvement chains. The case was pursued by Sonoma County’s Organized Retail Theft Unit, which focuses on large-scale shoplifting rings. 
• Medicaid cuts trigger layoffs at East Bay hospitals serving Alameda County's most vulnerable (cbsnews.com) — Alameda County residents who rely on public hospitals could soon feel the impact of major staffing cuts at Alameda Health System, which plans to eliminate 247 positions after federal Medicaid reductions. Patients and staff at facilities like Highland Hospital and John George Psychiatric Hospital fear the layoffs will strain care for low-income communities and those most dependent on Medi-Cal services.
