RivCo Family Shares Their $500 Donation With Local Mail Carrier, Is Blessed With Even More In Return

A local influencer asked a family with a disabled son, "If you could have $500 or give that to someone else, which would you do?"

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A national "kindness influencer," Jimmy Darts, recently helped not only a local mail carrier, but also the family of a disabled boy in need of assistance.

Jimmy Darts, author of "Undercover Kindness: Saying Yes to Love, No to Fear, and Embracing the Life-Changing Power of Ordinary Generosity," and a self-proclaimed "kindness influencer," uses his platform to spread kindness and give back through acts of generosity, according to his publisher.

Recently, he connected with a family in the Riverside area and has set about changing their lives without asking for a thing.

Darts saw the family while shopping, and asked whether they wanted $500 for themselves or would rather bless someone else in the store with $500, he said on Facebook. The family is made up of an unidentified father, daughter, and son— a 12-year-old boy who is bound to a wheelchair.

"They chose to bless a mail carrier lady, and she wept with joy," Darts said.

Darts' video (shared below) shows the female mail carrier saying she had given $80 to someone else earlier that day, even though she didn't have it. The mail carrier thanked everyone and hugged the family for the blessing. Darts hung around in the aisle and kept talking with the family.

"I asked the daughter what their family’s dream would be for Christmas, and she immediately started to cry. She told me that their mom had passed away three years ago, and it’s been hard to take care of their little brother because of his disabilities."

He learned of their wish for a wheelchair-accessible van.

"Because they don’t have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle and their dad is getting older, he struggles to move and take Jacob places," Darts explained. "Their dad also struggles to provide for their family as he fixes airplane parts for a living. Along with having to be mom and dad to Jacob, who is now 12 years old and is too heavy for his father to lift him in and out of their little car."

Darts gave the family $1,000 from his "kindness fund" and started a GoFundMe campaign on their behalf. He has also given them a premium membership to Experian, to help keep their finances on track, he said.

"Let’s give this family more than enough," he said.

As of Monday, the GoFundMe has amassed over $285,600, and more donations are coming in. The current goal is $300,000 for the family.

Fans have shown support for the effort online, including Lucy G.

"Just saw this amazing moment and though I am on here as well fighting an eviction, I felt compelled to donate at least something to be a part of this! What an amazing meetup of giving and caring people. God bless the carrier lady and the lovely family. Dad you are a rare gem of a father xo."

Darts, whose real last name is Kellogg, grew to fame on social media platforms TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube, amassing millions of followers for his content.

And while the content has generated some negative feedback— with detractors calling the videos exploitative and warning of potential scams in the "kindness content" industry — Darts told the Associated Press he plans to keep up the work he's doing, both on and off camera.

"You can fool people all day and you can make money and do this and that, but God sees your heart,” he told the AP.

Darts’ debut book was released in October.
