Bay Dance Academy Hosts Inaugural Dance Showcase in Oakland

Bay Dance Academy celebrated its first year with a special Dance Showcase at 2200 Wood St, Oakland. The event attracted a significant and enthusiastic crowd, including many proud parents, Nepali and Indian Community members, and representatives from various Nepali Organizations eager to witness their children’s performances.

The showcase featured eight captivating dance performances, spotlighting the talents of young dancers who participated in a special summer program offered by the academy. This program, catering to children aged 7 to 13, was designed to develop their skills in various dance styles. Choreographer Anita Khatri, who leads the academy, expressed her pride in the students’ progress, noting the range of genres presented, from traditional Nepali dances to contemporary pieces.

Most of the community representatives who witnessed the event praised and appreciated the Academy's initiatives. As guests and well-wishers of the academy Ishwar Sitaula, Preetesh Karki, and Dhruva Thapa—addressed the audience, praising the academy’s achievements and its contributions to the cultural landscape of the Bay Area. Each highlighted the academy’s participation in various events, such as the Asian Cultural Festivals, the Indian Community’s Independence Day program, and the Nepal Day parade.

Adding to the cultural richness of the event was a special performance by local artist Laxman Adhikari and his team, who delivered soulful renditions of folk Nepali songs. Their performance added a unique cultural flavor to the showcase, resonating strongly with the diverse audience.

The event concluded with a ceremony where Certificates of Appreciation, Accomplishment, and Participation were awarded to the performers and contributors, recognizing their dedication and effort.

Bay Dance Academy, based in Richmond, CA, has quickly established itself as a vibrant cultural hub in the Bay Area. It offers dance classes for both children and adults, including traditional, folk, and modern Nepali dance. This summer’s intensive Summer Dance Camp, which ran from June 5 to August 14, culminated in this showcase, providing students with a platform to demonstrate their newly acquired skills.
