Berkeley Rep Announces Cast And Creative Team For World Premiere
Jiehae Park's poignant new play, the aves, explores memory, aging, and human connection.
BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley Repertory Theatre has announced the full cast and creative team for the world premiere of Jiehae Park’s the aves, set to debut at Peet’s Theatre from May 2 to June 8, 2025.
Directed by Knud Adams, the play explores themes of memory, forgiveness, and the natural world through the lens of two elderly characters engaged in quiet yet profound conversations on a park bench.
“With humor and tenderness, the singular imagination and innovative style of acclaimed playwright Jiehae Park turn the ordinary into the extraordinary as the seasons shift,” Berkeley Rep said in a statement.

The cast includes Bill Buell, Daniel Croix, Mia Katigbak, and Laakan McHardy.
The creative team features scenic design by Marsha Ginsberg, costumes by Haydee Zelideth, lighting by Masha Tsimring, sound by DJ Potts, puppet design by Erik Sanko and Phantom Limb Company, and stage management by Leslie Radin and Sofie Miller.

Berkeley Rep Artistic Director Johanna Pfaelzer praised the collaboration between Park and Adams, saying, “Jiehae and Knud are a great artistic team, committed to helping us, as audience members, deepen our relationship to the theatre we watch. the aves allows us to contemplate the complicated beauty of our relationship to our bodies, our minds, and the natural world as we progress through our lifespan.”
The production is backed by Berkeley Rep’s generous season sponsors, including Peet’s Coffee and a host of philanthropic supporters.
