Berkeley Teen Arrested After Leading Cops On Freeway Chase

BERKELEY, CA — A Berkeley teen who led police on a chase was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with a carjack investigation, police said.

The 16-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of evading police and possession of a stolen vehicle, the Berkeley Police Department said.

The driver was among three teens (all juveniles) who were arrested, police said. The other two were subsequently released.

The driver was taken to juvenile hall, police said.

The pursuit snarled eastbound traffic on Highway 24 for much of the afternoon.

The Oakland Police Department is investigating whether the driver was involved in a carjacking earlier this week, police said.

The Berkeley Police Department is investigating whether the driver was involved in a recent spate of robberies, according to police.

The pursuit began after officers spotted the vehicle traveling eastbound on Highway 24 at around 1:50 p.m.

Officers stopped the vehicle near Exit 9.
