‘Bomb Cyclone’ Batters El Cerrito

EL CERRITO, CA — A massive storm over the weekend that dumped heavy rains throughout the Bay Area pounded El Cerrito especially hard.

The National Weather Service reports 5.66 inches of rain fell on El Cerrito over a 48-hour period as of Monday at 7:17 a.m.

Berkeley saw 2.77 inches of rain over a 48-hour period as of 7:18 a.m. and 1.94 inches fell over the same period in Albany.

The storm knocked out power to over 4,000 PG&E customers, Berkeleyside reports.

In Berkeley, the 400 block of Arlington Avenue was closed Sunday night due to flooding after Ashby Avenue at Seventh Street was closed earlier in the day at the underpass due to flooding.

In Marin, the National Weather Service reports 16.55 inches of rain pounded Mount Tamalpais over a 48-hour period as of Monday at 6:36 a.m., of which 13 inches fell Sunday, SFGate reports.

San Francisco on Sunday experienced the fourth highest single-day rainfall in recorded history, with 4.02 inches falling on the city, KRON reports.

Early Sunday afternoon, high winds overturned several big rigs, snarling eastbound traffic on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge for hours, KRON reports.
