Doggy Pride Parade Celebrated In Berkeley

Dogs of all shapes and sizes expressed their pride at Berkeley Humane Sunday.

BERKELEY, CA — Sashaying, dancing and celebrating are all part of San Francisco's Pride Parade, but a Pride Parade in Berkeley Sunday is adding a new element - barking.

Berkeley Humane describes its Doggy Pride event as a "fun Pride Parade and fabulous adoption event" taking place at the agency's facility at 2700 Ninth St. in west Berkeley. Check-in is at 12:30 p.m. and the parade, which will circle the block, begins at 1 p.m.

Adoption fees will be waived Sunday, the agency said.

Festive costumes for the dogs are encouraged, though getting a wig, makeup and a tutu on even the most cooperative canine could prove to be a challenge.

Regardless, there will be a 2 p.m. drag performance. It was unknown at press time whether the performers would be dogs or humans.
