Off-Duty UC Berkeley Cop Fatally Shoots Robbery Suspect: Report

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — An off-duty UC Berkeley cop fatally shot an armed robbery suspect in Contra Costa County late Sunday morning, NBC Bay Area reports.

The Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Amanuel Moreno, 29 of Richmond, according to the report.

Deputies at 11:30 a.m. responded to a report of the shooting at the Nation’s Giant Hamburgers in the 16300 block of San Pablo Avenue in unincorporated San Pablo, the report said.

An off-duty UC Berkeley Police sergeant was dining at the restaurant when they confronted an armed suspect robbing a cashier, the report said.

The officer fired one shot that struck the suspect, the report said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the report said.
