Flash Flood Warning For Parts Of Alameda County

The National Weather Service and Alameda County Alert remind motorists to not drive into standing water, as you could be swept away.

ALAMEDA, CA — The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Hayward, San Leandro, and Castro Valley until 7:45 p.m.

Earlier, a Flash Flood Warning was issued until 6 p.m. in Alameda, Oakland, Piedmont, Emeryville, Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, San Pablo, and Richmond.

"A Flash Flood Warning means that flash flooding is imminent or already occurring. Heavy rainfall can cause rapid water rise in creeks, rivers, and low-lying areas, creating life-threatening conditions."

Actions You Should Take:

  • Avoid Driving on Flooded Roads: Turn around, don’t drown. Even shallow water can sweep vehicles away.
  • Stay away from creeks, rivers, and other waterways that may rise rapidly.
  • Do not attempt to walk or drive through moving water.
  • Seek higher ground if you are in a flood-prone area.
  • Monitor local news, weather updates, and official channels for the latest information.

The Berkeley Police Department reports that Ashby Avenue/7th Street Overpass is closed due to flooding in the area.

Flooding is also happening in San Francisco, especially in the Mission and Marina districts.

The evening commute is underway, impacting thousands of drivers who cross the Bay Bridge and pour onto freeways heading north, south and east.

This is exacerbated by the Thanksgiving holiday getaway, as some people are already hitting the road or heading to the airport. Several school districts in the Bay Area have holidays all next week.
