Berkeley Harvest Festival Returns With Live Music, Food & More

Festivalgoers are invited to take part in a food contest to celebrate the city's thriving culture of growing and making its own food.

BERKELEY, CA — Apple picking, sipping warm drinks by the fire and diving into freshly-raked leaf piles in the yard are just a few of the many simple pleasures autumn has to offer, but for residents of Berkeley, there is one event that marks the return of fall, the annual Harvest Festival.

Scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15, at Cedar Rose Park, 1300 Rose Street in Berkeley, the annual event celebrates the fall season with live music, children's activities, food and much more.

Festivalgoers can also take part in a food contest to celebrate the city's thriving culture of growing and making its own food. Featuring categories such as Best Homegrown Fruit, Best Cookies and Best Pie, registering for the contest, which can easily be done online, is free and open to all ages, the city of Berkeley said.

The only caveat, the city said, is that each entry must have an ingredient that could be "feasibly" grown in Berkeley.

Children will have tons of fun at the Kids Zone, which includes a climbing wall, an obstacle course, bowling with pumpkins, scarecrow making, pumpkin decorating, petting zoo and carnival games with prizes.
