Man Taken Into Custody In Connection With Kidnapping Of Ex-Girlfriend And 3 Children

The man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, domestic violence and evading police, authorities said.

BERKELEY, CA — A man who allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend and her three young children in Berkeley on Thursday afternoon was taken into custody after police tracked him to San Leandro, authorities said.

Officers responded to a family disturbance about 1:07 p.m. in the 1800 block of Sixth Street, where a woman told police that her daughter's ex-boyfriend was forcing her into a vehicle, according to Berkeley police Officer Byron White.

Minutes later, police spotted the suspect's car driving away and they pursued it until they lost sight of it in Oakland.

Just before 3 p.m., they tracked the suspect to the area of MacArthur and Broadmoor boulevards in San Leandro.

When officers spotted the suspect with the 21-year-old woman and her children, a 1-year-old and two 3-year-olds, the suspect dropped one of the toddlers and ran into the block, police said.

With the assistance of the California Highway Patrol and San Leandro police, officers set a perimeter around the area and searched for the suspect.

About 3:46 p.m., he was found in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue.

The suspect, a man in his 20s, is in custody and set to be booked into jail on suspicion of kidnapping, domestic violence, evading the police and other charges. His name was not released.
