One Arrested, 21 Cited During Berkeley DUI Checkpoint
Twenty-one others were cited for driving without a license during the public safety event.

BERKELEY, CA — One driver was arrested for driving under the influence and 21 others were cited for driving without a license during a DUI checkpoint in Berkeley, Friday, Aug. 12, officials announced today.
The checkpoint which reached 446 vehicles, was held at the intersection of Adeline Street and Alcatraz Avenue from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., Berkeley Police said in a news release issued Monday, Aug. 15.
"DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes," Berkeley Police explained in the release. "The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads."

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
