Suspect Arrested In Connection With Berkeley Gunfire Incident

BERKELEY, CA — A Berkeley man has been arrested in connection with an April 7 shooting incident that took place on the 3100 block of San Pablo Avenue, police announced today.

On April 7th at 1:44 pm, the Berkeley Department received Numerous calls reporting gunfire were received by dispatchers at about 1:44 p.m. April 7 and when officers arrived on the scene, they found evidence of gunfire, a news release issued by Berkeley police said.

"After speaking with witnesses and reviewing security video footage, investigators determined that the gunfire involved a shoot-out between two suspects," the news release said.

Investigators found two separate vehicles that had been damaged from the gunfire, including a USPS vehicle, and after further investigation, detectives identified one of the suspects as an unidentified 23-year-old Berkeley man and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

The news release reported that detectives searched the suspect's residence June 9 and found a "Ghost gun" with "armor-piercing rounds" along with a handgun loaded with an extended magazine.

The suspect, who was found armed with another gun, was later arrested by Pittsburg PD during a traffic stop in August.

The suspect was transferred to the custody of the Berkeley Police Department Sept. 27 and subsequently booked for assault with a deadly weapon warrant, felon in possession of firearm warrant, and violation of probation.

"We would like to thank the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force for their assistance over the course of this investigation," the news release said.
