UC Berkeley Expert Warns Of Possible Winter Surge: Report

BERKELEY, CA — A statewide uptick in cases, including in the heavily vaccinated Bay Area, has a leading UC Berkeley expert is urging caution ahead of the holiday season, The Mercury News reports.

Dr. John Swartzberg is encouraging Californians who have not yet done so to get their vaccines and those who are eligible to get their boosters amid what he described as an "uncertain" period heading into the winter months, the report said.

The state has experienced an increase in its positivity rate from 2 percent in late October to 2.4 percent in early November, the report said.

“These are uncertain and disquieting times right now, because we can’t be confident in where we are and where we’re going,” Swartzberg told the news outlet.

“We have to be very prudent in how we conduct ourselves as individuals and how we conduct ourselves from a public health standpoint.”
