Beverly Hills Police Chief Faces Numerous Lawsuits

Chief Sandra Spagnoli is accused of making "insensitive" comments.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- Numerous lawsuits have been filed against Beverly Hills Police Chief Sandra Spagnoli over "insensitive" comments she made toward employees. NBC 4 reported that Spagnoli is facing a "growing number of lawsuits filed by department employees who've made allegations of discrimination and retaliation."

"In one of at least seven pending employee cases Chief Sandra Spagnoli is accused of making insensitive remarks about a police captain's religion. In another, the chief is accused of offending two police lieutenants and a civilian communications supervisor," NBC 4 reported.

"The captain, lieutenants, and civilian supervisor also claim their roles in the department were lessened or marginalized, and in some cases, say they lost pay as a result," the news station said.

Spagnoli was named the city's first female chief in 2016 after a long career in law enforcement. She began her career with the San Carlos Police Department in 1990. She also servied as police chief for San Leandro and Benicia.

Spagnoli's promotion to Beverly Hills police chief made national news, even landing her in Vogue magazine.
