Beverly Hills Unemployment Rate Lower than L.A. County

The city had an 8.3 percent unemployment rate in July 2012, compared to the county's 11.2 percent for that month.

The unemployment rate in Beverly Hills was 8.3 percent in July, compared to 11.2 percent for Los Angeles County, according to the latest California Employment Development Department numbers.

In July 2011, the county unemployment rate was slightly higher at 12.5 percent, as was Beverly Hills' at 9.3 percent.

Currently, there are about 1,600 people seeking employment in Beverly Hills out of a labor force of 18,900.

A total of 540,000 people were unemployed in July in L.A. County, which has a labor force of about 4.84 million.

Statewide, about 2 million people were out of work in July.
