City Launches Online Tools to Speed Up Permit Process

Three new online tools will simplify and speed up the process when applying for building permits and completing construction projects in Beverly Hills. The new programs, which went live on March 26, 2012, will decrease trips to City Hall, reduce waiting, cut down on printing costs, and cut overall permit processing time.

The City estimate that for every 3,000 permits issued, paper savings will equal 239 trees; drive time will be reduced by more than 12,000 hours, which will cut the production of carbon monoxide by nearly a half-million pounds.

1. The Electronic Review System is designed for architects, engineers and their clients to help move the plan check process along faster. It will place all construction project plans online and create one set of documents that will contain all changes and corrections for use by everyone involved with the project.

2. An enhanced Online Inspection Scheduling & Appointment Request System is for builders and contractors who need approvals for their construction projects. It will allow these customers to request morning and afternoon inspections up to two weeks in advance.

3. A new Online Appointment System will make it easier for anyone building in Beverly Hills to schedule Permit Center appointments at City Hall for plan reviews, permitting and building code questions, or anything construction-related that requires face-to-face contact. 

“These new programs are a key part of our Government Efficiency initiative,” said Mayor William Brien, MD. “These tools will save our customers hours of their time, reduce the time it takes to finalize projects and allow staff to focus on what they do best, which is helping customers.”
