Hilary Duff Apologizes for Insensitive Costume at Beverly Hills Party

BEVERLY HILLS, CA -- Actress Hilary Duff is apologizing for her poorly thought out costume after photos of the actress and her boyfriend were posted online, the Associated Press reported.
Duff wore a Pilgrim costume while boyfriend Jason Walsh donned a headdress and face paint to go as a Native American at a Beverly Hills party Thursday. The couple received swift social media backlash for the Thanksgiving-themed costume.
The actress issued the apology Sunday on Twitter, saying she did not think the whole thing through and she was "SO sorry" to the people she offended. Walsh issued a similar apology on Instagram. The fitness model said he would not have made the same costume choice in hindsight.

I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume. It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my sorry.

"I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America," Walsh said in the post.
I meant no disrespect. I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America. In hindsight I would not have made that decision. I apologize to anyone I may have offended.

The costume choice landed Duff and Walsh on an ignominious list of celebrities who have chosen offensive costumes over the years, including Kylie Jenner, Julianne Hough and Ashley Benson, to name a few. Walsh's costume is especially controversial given the Dakota Access Pipeline issue that the Sioux Tribe is battling against in North Dakota.
