Pointer Sisters' Anita Pointer Dies At 74
Anita Pointer died in her Beverly Hills home after a 'heroic battle with cancer,' loved ones announced over the weekend.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Anita Pointer, member of the Grammy-winning Pointer Sisters group, died in her Beverly Hills home after a 'heroic battle with cancer,' loved ones announced Saturday.
Pointer's publicist Roger Neal announced her death to social media Saturday.
"Sad to report my client Grammy Winner Anita Pointer of the Pointer Sisters has passed away after a heroic battle with cancer her family was around her at the time of her death she passed peacefully," Neal said in an Instagram post.

Pointer's only daughter, Jada, died in 2003, and Pointer took great joy raising her grandchild Roxie, according to the statement.
“While we are deeply saddened by the loss of Anita, we are comforted in knowing she is now with her daughter, Jada and her sisters June & Bonnie and at peace. She was the one that kept all of us close and together for so long. Her love of our family will live on in each of us. Please respect our privacy during this period of grief and loss. Heaven is a more loving beautiful place with Anita there,” the statement said.

Anita Pointer quit her job to start the R&B pop group with her sisters in 1969, and the Pointer Sisters released its debut album in 1973. Among many other awards and recognitions, the group won three grammies and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1994, according to a statement on the Pointer Sisters' website.
Anita Pointer wrote a book about the Pointer Sisters with her brother in 2020 titled "Fairytale."
