San Jose firefighters rushed to the scene and extricated the woman from her vehicle.

SANTA CLARA VALLEY, CA — A woman who was transported to a hospital Wednesday afternoon after crashing her vehicle down a 50-foot embankment in San Jose is expected to survive, according to the city's police and fire departments. The victim lost control of the car and fell into the steep embankment along Yerba Buena Road east of Silver Creek Road, fire officials said.

The crash was reported at 4:15 p.m. The first fire crew was on scene just two minutes later and extricated the victim from the vehicle by 4:30 p.m., fire officials said.

The rescue was expedited since firefighters were able to drive directly up to the crashed car using a service road and avoided having to use ropes to get down to it.
