The Carlsbad Beach Foundation (CBF) has teamed up with the San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation (SDASF)

The Carlsbad Beach Foundation (CBF) has teamed up with the San Diego Adaptive Sports Foundation (SDASF) to provide wheel chair access to the sand and water’s edge at the 6th annual Carlsbad Beach Fest on Saturday, June 15, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Specialized beach wheelchairs, beach mats, and other adaptive equipment provided by SDASF will make for easy access to the shoreline for individuals with limitations who would like to actively participate and be involved with the Carlsbad Beach Fest activities. Access will be provided from the Tamarack State Beach parking lot and volunteers will be ready to lend helping hands and assist people from their vehicles onto the beach. A hub of tents, set just a few feet from the water and adjacent to the surf contest, will provide a meeting place and sun shelter. SDASF will demonstrate how doable and rewarding it is for the physically challenged to safely get into the water and have fun.

The organization (SDASF.org) works to improve the quality of life for children and adults with permanent physical disabilities and injured service members through sports and recreation in the great outdoors. “I think most people would agree that any amount of time spent at the beach is therapeutic both emotionally and physically – it naturally adds inspiration and excitement to our everyday lives, so I’m thrilled that our collaboration with SDASF will provide opportunity for everyone to enjoy that experience at Beach Fest,” says Tamara Urie, CBF’s founder and president.

On a grand scale, Carlsbad Beach Fest works to raise awareness about how valuable the beach and ocean is to the Carlsbad coastal community and encourages stewardship to help with preservation efforts.

More than 12,000 people are expected to attend this year’s event. Staged on one mile of beach from Tamarack to Pine Avenue, the festival offers a fun-filled day of live music, competitive sports and free activities aimed at celebrating our recreational paradise through good beach stewardship.

Planned sports include a 5K Beach Run/Walk, the Carlsbad CRAWL Beach Triathlon, Pro & Amateur Surf Contest presented by SurfRide, a 1-Mile Ocean Swim, 6-Mile and 1-Mile Paddleboard Races, Beach Duathlons, a Kids 1-Mile Fun Run, and Zumba dance fitness.

Carlsbad Beach Fest is a project of the Carlsbad Beach Foundation Inc., a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) public charity committed to the sustainability of our local beaches and waterways.
