Over 2,500 Pounds Of Crystal Meth Found During North County Traffic Stop

CARLSBAD, CA — A driver was arrested after a police dog sniffed out thousands of pounds of packaged crystal methamphetamine during a traffic stop in northern San Diego County, authorities said.

Police officers conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation at 9:42 p.m. Friday on Interstate 5, just north of Las Pulgas Road in Oceanside, according to the Carlsbad Police Department. During the stop, a K-9 team found 2,563 pounds of packaged crystal meth valued between $1.15 million to $3.08 million.

"Carlsbad Police K-9s are specially trained dogs that work alongside a police officer handler," the department said in a news release. "These K-9s are skilled in both suspect apprehension and narcotics detection, undergoing regular and rigorous training in both areas."

The driver of the vehicle, Eduardo Limas, a 24 year-old resident of Tijuana, Mexico, was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of transportation of a controlled substance and possession of over 20 kilograms of methamphetamine. He was being held on $500,000 bail.
