Bay Area Shelters Helping Take In Pets From LA Shelters
Several local shelters are helping Greater Good Charities transport dozens of pets in LA shelters where they can be adopted.

OAKLAND, CA —The East Bay Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ESPCA) is joining Greater Good Charities to transport more than 50 adoptable pets from overwhelmed shelters in Greater Los Angeles to shelters in the Pacific Northwest. Approximately 12 pets will be boarded onto different flights to take them to new homes.
"Within hours of the outbreak of the fires, Greater Good Charities was already mobilizing our response," Liz Baker, CEO of Greater Good Charities, said in a statement. "This emergency flight is an important part of our larger response to provide critically needed aid to those affected: from displaced families and unhoused populations to injured animals, overwhelmed pet shelters, and damaged ecosystems."
The San Diego Humane Society will take in pets from overwhelmed shelters in Greater Los Angeles, where hundreds of animals have been displaced by the fires. On Friday, the next flight will depart Gillespie Field in El Cajon and stop in Hayward and Portland, Oregon, where pets will be brought to receiving shelters. The shelters will evaluate them for any medical needs before putting them up for adoption.
