Castro Valley Earns High Marks, Rankings In Niche Report

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — Niche.com is a data company that provides insight into neighborhoods and schools throughout the United States. So how does Castro Valley fare overall?

Under “Rankings,” Castro Valley was ranked No. 483 (out of 6,805 cities) in the “Most Diverse Suburbs in America” category; No. 892 (out of 6,797 cities) in the “Suburbs with the Best Public Schools in America” category; and No. 2,118 (out of 6,799) in the “Best Suburbs to Raise a Family in America” category.

Niche also has “Report Cards” for cities that are based on multiple factors. They feature letter grades ranging from A+ to F, much like school report cards. Castro Valley received an A- as its “Overall Niche Grade.” In the “subjects” of public schools, good for families, outdoor activities, diversity, weather, and health & fitness, it earned an A-range grade. For “nightlife,” “commute,” and “jobs,” it received a B+, B, and B-, respectively. Other grades include one C- (for housing), and one D+ for “cost of living.” Notably, other Bay Area cities, such as Alameda and Berkeley, received the same not-so-great grade for the latter category.

Niche, in line with its motto, “Find where you belong,” centers on “connect[ing] people to their future schools and neighborhoods” via its comprehensive data. For analyses, Niche pulls from dozens of public data sources and “over 100 million reviews and survey responses from students, parents and residents” to give people detailed information about a city's infrastructure and offerings.
