Castro Valley Man Catches Record-Breaking Fish

Submitted by John Polmiroo

A Lake Chabot record for biggest fish caught was set May 10, when John Clark of Castro Valley landed a 45-pound, 59-inch long sturgeon at 10 a.m.  Clark was using Powerbait, a trout bait not known for catching sturgeon.

Lake Chabot manager Stan Wong said sturgeon are an unusual catch at Lake Chabot.  The last one caught was taken in 1995, though a few were landed in the early '90s.  Wong reported, "Since I've been here, this is definitely the biggest fish I've seen.  The previous Lake Chabot record was a 39" catfish caught by George Goveia 1981.  It weighed 35 lbs.
