CHP Identifies Victim, DUI Suspect in Fatal San Lorenzo Collision

Officers arrested 19-year-old Hayward resident Manuel Ramos on suspicion of DUI.

SAN LORENZO, CA: A 78-year-old woman who died in a collision in San Lorenzo last weekend involving an alleged drunk driver has been identified by the California Highway Patrol as Oakland resident Ann Marie Gomez. The collision occurred at about 5:50 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Paseo Grande and Paseo del Campo in the unincorporated Alameda County community of San Lorenzo, CHP officials said.

Officers arrested 19-year-old Hayward resident Manuel Ramos on suspicion of DUI after he broadsided a 2001 Daewoo Leganza in a 2006 Dodge Charger, killing Gomez, who was a passenger in the Daewoo. The driver of the Daewoo was traveling west through an intersection on Paseo Grande and had the right of way when Ramos allegedly failed to stop at the intersection as he was traveling south on Paseo del Campo, CHP Officer Dan Jacowitz said.

After the crash, the two vehicles ended up on the front lawn of a home, Jacowitz said. Gomez died at the scene. The driver of the Daewoo suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital. One passenger in the Dodge suffered minor injuries and the other suffered major injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to Jacowitz.
