Dean Nielsen Ends His Term on Castro Valley Municipal Advisory Council

After 10 years on the advisory board, council member Dean Nielsen attended his last MAC meeting on Monday.

After more than a decade of serving on the , council member Dean Nielsen is terming out.

He sat in on his last MAC meeting on Monday evening at the . He was acknowledged by his fellow council members and District 4 Supervisor Nate Miley.

Nielsen is the longest serving member on the council, which advises Miley on local issues.

Miley recognized Nielsen for his service and commitment to the council and the Castro Valley community.

From countless meetings to negotiations such as , "he's gone above and beyond," Miley said.

Nielsen was the only council member on the MAC prior to Miley's election to office. All members after him were appointed by the supervisor.

MAC Chair Cheryl Miraglia estimated Nielsen, who had previously served two years chairing the council, has put in more than 600 hours of service into the council.

She presented him with an engraved crystal plaque, which the council members chipped in to buy.

Nielsen said he'll be moving up north to enjoy his retirement.

"I've enjoyed it, I really have," Neilsen said. "My tenure here hasn't gone to waste. I've been asked to do the planning commission in Ferndale."

As for finding appointing another member to fill Nielsen's seat, Bob Swanson, constituent liaison for Miley's office said the supervisor is looking at the issue, but no decisions have been made as of yet.
