Former CVHS Basketball Coach, CMS Counselor Joins CIF Staff

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Office today announced Erin Davenport as the new Director for the CIF. Davenport assumes the responsibilities of Brian Seymour who has been promoted to Senior Director. She will serve as a staff liaison for Regional and State Championship events, sports advisory committees and educational programs.

“I believe this quote aptly fits my new position as CIF Director,” states Davenport. “I am both honored and excited to have the opportunity to combine my education and experience with my passion for high school athletics.”

Prior to joining the CIF team, Davenport served as an Education Consultant at the California Department of Education (CDE). At the CDE she was responsible for providing technical assistance and monitoring for legal compliance for 30 districts located in Los Angeles County. Davenport holds a California Administrative Services Credential and will complete her Doctorate in Educational Leadership in 2014.

Davenport also served as head girls’ basketball coach at Castro Valley High School from 1994 to 2004 while working as a counselor in the Castro Valley Unified School District. During her tenure as the head coach her teams were recognized for their tenacity and hard play while they compiled an outstanding record as a member of the CIF – North Coast Section.

She graduated from St. Mary’s College in 1992 with a degree in diversified liberal arts and received her master’s degree in counseling education from St. Mary’s in 1994. Additionally, she played both basketball and volleyball during her college years and was a graduate assistant while obtaining her master’s degree.
