18-Year-Old Hayward Man Fatally Shot During San Ramon Jewelry Heist
Kibrom Bairu, 18, of Hayward died after being shot during a robbery at the Gold N Treasures on San Ramon Valley Boulevard on Wednesday afternoon.

A man who was shot and later died in a botched robbery attempt at a San Ramon jewelry store on Wednesday was identified as 18-year-old Kibrom Bairu of Hayward, San Ramon police said.
According to police, Bairu was one of four suspects who attempted to rob the at about 4:35 p.m. Bairu was making threatening statements and was the only suspect brandishing a firearm when he was shot once. After being wounded, he left the store and collapsed on San Ramon Valley Boulevard.
Responding officers arrested Bairu and he was taken to where he later died.

San Ramon police have yet to release who shot Bairu, just saying it was a man inside the store. There were store employees and a customer in the Gold N Treasures at the time of the robbery.
The other suspects reportedly fled in a 1990s white sedan and are still being sought by police, Police Chief Scott Holder said.
