How To Register To Vote In Castro Valley
Here's what you need to know about voter registration in Castro Valley ahead of the Nov. 5 election.
CASTRO VALLEY, CA — While many ballots for the Nov. 5 General Election have already been mailed out to voters in California, swaths of residents still haven’t registered.
In California, the last day to register to vote online is Oct. 21 — 15 days before Election Day. You can register to vote here. For those who need to check their registration and in which county, click here. Those who are 16 or 17 years old can pre-register to vote here.
Same-day voter registration, also known as conditional registration, is also available for those who miss the deadline to register to vote or update their information before the Nov. 5 election.
In Castro Valley, you can complete the same-day voter registration process at the following locations:
- Castro Valley Community Center, 18988 Lake Chabot Road, Castro Valley
- Kenneth C Aitken Senior Center, 17800 Redwood Road, Castro Valley
- Palomares Hills Rec Center, 6811 Villareal Dr., Castro Valley
If you need to register on Election Day, you can also visit the Alameda County Registrar of Voters office in the René C. Davidson Courthouse, 1225 Fallon St., Room G-1, in Oakland; and polling locations in Castro Valley. On Nov. 5, residents will be able to access same-day voter registration and cast their ballots between 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If you are voting for the first time after registering to vote by mail, and you did not provide your driver's license number, California ID number or the last four digits of your social security number on your registration form, you may be asked to show a form of ID when you arrive at the polls, according to the Secretary of State’s office.
If this is the case, bring a form of ID with you or include a copy of it with your vote-by-mail ballot.
Here are acceptable forms of identification that you may bring:
- A copy of a recent utility bill
- The sample ballot booklet you got from your county elections office
- Another document sent to you by a government agency
- Passport
- Driver license
- State ID card
- Student ID card showing name and photo

Who’s Registered To Vote In Castro Valley?
In the entire Unincorporated Area of the county, there were 87,138 total registered voters as of Sept. 6, according to the latest registration report from California’s Secretary of State. 46,968 were listed as Democrats while 14,447 were registered under the Republican Party.
As of Sept. 6, some 22,310,352 Californians had registered to vote. Of those voters, 46% had registered Democrat while almost 25% registered Republican. Another 22% had no party preference and 7% listed “other,” according to the Secretary of State.
The counties with the largest increase in registered voters were Riverside, Orange, San Bernardino, San Diego and Los Angeles counties.
