Kelly-Moore Paints Signs Lease For Former Blockbuster Video Site

The paint company will now work toward obtaining permits before opening up shop.

A new tenant is expected to roll into Castro Valley's former Blockbuster Video site.

Kelly-Moore Paints recently signed a lease with the Adobe Plaza's landlord for the space.

"If [Kelly-Moore] gets in there, that'll be the first time that center has been full in years," said Roberta Rivet of the .

In an e-mail statement by Kelly-Moore Paints’ VP of Operations Mike Black, the company has roots in the Bay Area — it started in San Carlos — and looks forward to adding Castro Valley among its cluster of East Bay locations.

"Castro Valley fills a void between our Hayward, San Lorenzo and newly relocated Dublin sites," Black said. "We pride ourselves as the neighborhood paint store and Castro Valley is one of our new neighborhoods."

However, don't expect the shop to open up right away. According to the plaza's real estate broker Rene Brochier, the store is still pending permits and contstruction.

Black said that the store has targeted April 2012 for its grand opening.

"We plan to be in Castro Valley for many years," Black said. "At this time we have options that would run through 2027."

Brochier said Kelly-Moore had interest in opening a shop in the area a few years back.

"Recently this last fall, they got serious in putting a location in Castro Valley," Brochier said.

The when Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay applied to open a store at the location.

However, after toward a store opening at that location, Goodwill decided to look at : the former Wells Fargo Bank site.

Kimberly Scrafano, an official at Goodwill Industries of the Greater East Bay, said the nonprofit organization is not planning on signing a lease any time soon.

"We're still sort of exploring the option of other spots in Castro Valley," she said.

Currently, the former Wells Fargo Bank site and a former dollar store site are the only two vacancies in the plaza.

Kelly-Moore Paints would join several other paint shops in Castro Valley including and at the former Hollywood Video site.
