Power Out To 1,200 Customers In Castro Valley Area

A downed power line caused the biggest outage.

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — The power is out to some 1,200 Castro Valley area customers, according to PG&E, including one outage that is impacting 1167 users. That outage was caused by a downed power line at 12:30 p.m. Crews are working to restore electricity.

PG&E is reporting that 23,500 customers are currently without power as strong winds blast through Northern California amidst a Red Flag Warning. About 7,500 Bay Area customers have lost power due to weather issues like downed wires, on top of more than 16,000 in the region already affected by planned public safety power shutoffs. The shutoffs are impacting 2,373 customers in Alameda County

"As forecasted, fierce winds entered PG&E's service area last night, with peak wind gusts observed at 88 mph in St. Helena in Napa County," PG&E said in a release on Wednesday.

PG&E officials said that power should be restored to customers by sometime on Thursday.

The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning through 7 a.m. Thursday for the Bay Area and Central Coast.

In Southern California, two wildfires broke out Wednesday as Santa Ana winds created gusts in the 100 mph range. Homes burned in Malibu and Camarillo.
