Red Cross Blood Drive In Castro Valley Needs Donors
The blood drive will be held on Saturday. Appointments are available. Incentives: a $10 e-gift card for pet supplies and chance at $3K.
CASTRO VALLEY, CA — The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive in Castro Valley on Saturday. On Thursday morning, there were still four appointments available, down from seven Wednesday night. See available donation times.
Every donation collected can save up to three lives, the Red Cross reports.
The Red Cross is offering incentives in March to encourage donations. From March 1-24, each person who donates blood, platelets or AB Elite plasma will receive a $10 e-gift card for pet supplies plus their name will be entered to win one of five $3,000 gift cards. Full details of the giveaway are online.
The drive will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 19179 Center St. in Castro Valley. The available appointments are for Power Red donations. "A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor," according to the Red Cross website. "These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Neg, B Neg, or O blood."
In addition to registering online at the above link, you may also call 1-800-733-2767 for assistance.
Donors may streamline the donation process by visiting Rapid Pass on the day of the blood drive to complete the pre-donation reading and health history questions. The Red Cross asks anyone who feels unwell on the day of their appointment to postpone their donation.
