Swiss Delices: Relocation

Swiss Delices, Castro Valley’s well-known Swiss bakery, has moved locations from Santa Maria Avenue to right up the street on Castro Valley Boulevard.

Christine Clement, owner of Swiss Delices, opened Swiss Delices in Hayward on Main Street in 2008. Six months after the Hayward opening, Clement decided to close the bakery in Hayward, keep the kitchen and reopen the bakery in Castro Valley — which was on Santa Maria Avenue.

“Santa Maria was doing pretty well,” says Clement. “But I realized pretty fast that it was a big issue having a kitchen in Hayward and a shop in Castro Valley.”

Workers would spend close to two hours transporting the baked goods from the Hayward kitchen to the Castro Valley shop.

“If there was a mistake on a cake, I’d have to drive back to the Hayward kitchen to correct it because all the kitchen supplies were there,” says Clement. “Then I’d drive the cake back to Castro Valley. It was hectic.”

Because of this setback, Clement started looking for a facility with a kitchen. Unfortunately she was never satisfied with any of the places that were available.

It wasn’t until last year when Clement found the Castro Valley Boulevard location.

The bakery’s “regulars” stayed loyal to Swiss Delices and still come in at the new location.

Ronald Gauger, Castro Valley resident, has been coming to Swiss Delices for one year and says he loves everything about the bakery.

Clement has even noticed she’s getting more business since she’s located on a busy street.

One new addition to the bakery is the kids’ play section, which has a chalkboard and some toys and games for the little ones.

Clement is happy with the location move, and so are customers. She’s even planning to start baking lessons in September for the public.
