Monday, August 5
Advanced Math & Science Tutoring
The Castro Valley Library and two post-graduate science and engineering students are offering free high school and college-level tutoring in math, physics, and chemistry. No registration or appointment necessary! Tutoring will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Castro Valley Library, 3600 Norbridge Avenue, Castro Valley.

Assemblyman Bill Quirk’s Community Assistance Program

A representative from Assemblyman Bill Quirk’s office will be available to help you resolve California state-related issues. Assemblyman Quirk represents District 20 which includes Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview, Fremont, Hayward, San Lorenzo, Sunol and Union City. The assemblyman’s representative will work with you to help if you have a problem with a state agency, need legislative information or information about proposed legislation, or just want to express your comments and concerns. Please call Assemblyman Quirk’s office at (510) 583-8818 for an appointment. Drop-ins are also welcome. This will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the Castro Valley Library, 3600 Norbridge Avenue, Castro Valley.
Castro Valley Unified School District
The CVUSD Board of Education will hold interviews for the Provisional Appointment to the board during a special meeting at 4 p.m., located in the District Office Board Room, 4400 Alma Ave., Castro Valley.
Start Smart: Teen Driving Program
The California Highway Patrol and the Castro Valley Library present Start Smart: Teen Driver Program. CHP officers will discuss traffic collision avoidance techniques, collision causing factors, driver/parent responsibilities, and seatbelt usage. Additionally, testimonies will be provided by officers who have investigated fatal collisions involving teens, and by family members who have lost love ones in traffic collisions. The Start Smart program is a driver safety education class which targets new and future licensed teenage drivers between the age of 15-19 and their parents/guardians. Please contact the Castro Valley Library or the California Highway Patrol to register. This program will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Castro Valley Library, 3600 Norbridge Avenue, Castro Valley.
"National Night Out"
San Lorenzo is joining other communities nationwide for "National Night Out". Join your neighbors, family and friends in various activities in an effort to heighten awareness about drug and crime prevention, strengthen police-community partnerships and let criminals know that your neighborhood is fighting back. National Night Out will take place from 6 to 8 p.m at St. John's Catholic Church, 270 East Lewelling Blvd., San Lorenzo.

Food Truck Mafia Night
Many gourmet food trucks gather to satisfy your tastebuds! Not only is there amazing food — there's music and a bounce house! Chairs and tables will be provided, but most people bring their own fold-up chair to guarantee them a seat. The Food Truck Mafia will be held in the old Mervyn’s parking lot at the corner of Hesperian and Paseo Grande, from 5 to 9 p.m.

Outdoor Summer Movie Night
Castro Valley Rotary Club will be showing “Oz The Great and Powerful”. This event is free and everyone is invited! The movie will start at 8:30 p.m. in the alley way next to Knudsen’s Ice Creamery, 3323 Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley.
Saturday, August 10
Run in the Park: 5K & 10K
Run, walk, compete, cruise, exercise, escape - whichever! All levels are welcome, including walkers in the 5K. Run in one or more races OR compete for the Overall Series Championship. Awards for winners of the 5K & 10K, plus Medals for the top 3 in each age group. Overall Series Winners must compete and finish at least 4 races to qualify. Age Groups: 8 & Under; 9-11 yrs.; 12-15 yrs.; 16-19 yrs.; 20-29 yrs.; 30-39 yrs.; 40-49 yrs.; 50-59 yrs.; 60-69 yrs.; 70-79 yrs.; 80 & older. The registration fee is $35 before August 7, and $40 on the day of the race. To register, click here. The 5K and 10k race will be held at Garin Regional Park, 1320 Garin Avenue, Hayward, at 8 a.m.
Coffee with the Marines
All men and women veterans of the U.S. Marine Corps are invited to join with other Marines from all different times and duty stations for coffee and donuts at 9 a.m. located at the Veterans Memorial Building, 1105 Bancroft Ave. in San Leandro.
California's farmers bring you the freshest fruits and vegetables. The San Lorenzo Farmers' Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hesperian and Paseo Grande.
