Sophisticated Burglary Crews Target Westwood, LAPD Warns

Police are warning residents to be alert for burglars using Wifi jamming equipment to disable security cameras.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A sophisticated crew of burglars using WiFi jamming equipment is targeting Westside Los Angeles, and police are warning residents to be alert.

The rash of West Los Angeles burglaries has included homes in Brentwood, Beverly Glen, Beverlywood, Bel Air, Cheviot Hills and Pacific Palisades, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crews consist of two to four men who use outdoor furniture and drain pipes to access the second stories of homes to make entry, detectives from the LAPD's West Los Angeles Area Crime & Community Intelligence Center told the Santa Monica Mirror.

The crews make a point of disabling home security cameras with WiFi jammers and use radios to communicate with each other during break-ins, according to police.

Organized burglary crews have become an increasing problem in Los Angeles with sone thieves monitoring their victims' comings and goings with cameras embedded in the landscape.

Most recently, a burglary happened Friday night in Brentwood. KTLA reported that it happened in the 300 block of South Bundy Drive.

The Brentwood Homeowners Association and Community Association will meet over Zoom on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to discuss the burglaries.
