1 Killed, 2 Injured In Alleged DUI Crash Into Bay Point Home

A Concord man was arrested on suspicion of DUI in the head-on collision that killed his passenger and critically injured two others.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA β€” A 26-year-old Concord man was arrested after a crash that killed his passenger, critically injured two people in another vehicle and sent both cars crashing into a nearby home in Bay Point early this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported at 12:51 a.m. Thursday at 1 Wharf Drive just off of Port Chicago Highway in the unincorporated Contra Costa County community of Bay Point.

CHP officials initially said two people died in the crash, but CHP spokesman Officer Brandon Correia clarified later this morning that only one person has died. The county coroner's office has identified the victim as
Alejandro Moreno Garcia, 20, of Bay Point. Moreno Garcia was a passenger in a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Raul Moreno Ochoa Jr. that was heading west on Port Chicago Highway and drifted into oncoming traffic, then struck a Dodge Ram truck that was making a turn at the intersection, Correia said.

The two vehicles collided head-on and then both moved 70 to 80 feet off the road and into the nearby property on Wharf Drive, according to Correia.

Moreno Ochoa was also taken to the hospital with major injuries and was arrested there on suspicion of DUI involving alcohol and drugs, Correia said.
