Funeral Held in Concord for Fallen Sheriff's Deputy Michael Foley

Funeral services were held the morning on March 3 in Concord for Alameda County Sheriff's deputy Michael Foley, who was hit by a jail bus.

CONCORD, CA -- Funeral services for Alameda County sheriff's Deputy Michael Foley, who died from injuries suffered after an inmate bus struck him at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, was held the morning of Friday, March 3 at the Concord Pavilion in the city of Concord.

Foley, 60, worked in law enforcement for 37 years before he was struck by the bus at the transportation yard behind the jail near Broder Boulevard at about 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22 as he walked across a dark parking lot, according to sheriff's officials.

Apparently the deputy driving the bus didn't see Foley and Foley didn't see the bus, which was traveling at about 15 mph, sheriff's officials said. The bus was in the process of going to the jail's kitchen area to get prepared lunches for inmates who were to be transported to a courthouse in Oakland for court appearances later in the morning.

Foley had been with the sheriff's office for eight years and previously was an officer with the Concord Police Department for 29 years. He is survived by his wife Tammie, son Michael and daughter Tonya. A GoFundMe account set up to help his family was discontinued after raised nearly 22,800, surpassing its 20,000 goal in just six days.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Concord Pavilion, 2000 Kirker Pass Road, followed by a private procession and burial. A reception for Foley's family, friends and colleagues was scheduled for 3 pm to 9 pm Friday at the Dublin Senior Center, 7600 Amador Valley Blvd. in Dublin.
