CONCORD, CA β€” Residents of Concord and the Bay Area can tune in Tuesday morning to see one of their own compete on everyone's favorite game show, "The Price Is Right."

Gregory Roberts, 67, is appearing on the Halloween episode which airs at 10 a.m. Oct. 31 on CBS.

"No costume; they told us not to wear costumes for Halloween but they said we could wear something on our shirts," Roberts told Patch in a phone interview.

"I went to my local shop and I told the owner from India that I needed a lucky red shirt," Roberts said. "Then I went to the mall and I had a guy put the 'Price Is Right' wheel on the front and then I had 'Pick Me' put at the top of the shirt."

It worked. But not at first.

The day prior to the Sept. 25 taping, Roberts flew down to Los Angeles from the Bay Area. The next morning, he was in line at the studio at 6 a.m.

He came to the show 11 years ago so he was familiar with the process. There is a regular line and a priority line, he explained. Roberts had a priority-line ticket for the afternoon taping but not for the morning taping which was for the Halloween episode.

While waiting in line for the clock to hit 8 a.m. for the taping to start, he met a woman and her daughter who were also from Concord and that helped pass the time, he said.

"The daughter was going to fashion school in LA and her mother was there visting her," Roberts said. "We found out we live two blocks from each other."

Then Roberts noticed the priority line was gone and he said to his newfound friends from Concord that he didn't think they were going to get into the morning taping.

"There were 165 tickets for people who get in and I was 159," Roberts said. "We all got in...me, the lady from Concord and her daughter."

Roberts, a retiree who got his start in mens apparel working for Florsheim for nine years, then went on to work for Mens Wearhouse for 20 years, managing several stores, knows the value of things.

When he was called up for the first round, it was no wonder he was the closest bidder on a washer/dryer combination. He then went on stage to play the "Punch Game" and was one of the contestants to spin the wheel for a chance to go to the "Showcase Showdown."

"I was wiping my eyes, I was just so happy it brought tears to my eyes," Roberts said.

He told Patch he dreamt he won on the game show, which he took as a good sign after his unsuccessful attempt 11 years earlier.

During the taping the second time around, he said it felt like he was in a dream.

"First of all it was a miracle I got it in," Roberts said. "It was all like a dream, the whole time I'm bubbling over."

To find out what happens for Roberts this time around, plan to tune in to CBS at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, or set your DVR.
