CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA -- Officers on Thursday arrested a pair of Solano County residents suspected of stealing mail from mailboxes in Martinez, police say.

At about 12:50 p.m. March 16, police received a call about someone trying to pry open a locked mailbox on Tea Tree Court and then fleeing in a black Mercedes C230, police said.

Officers pulled the car over as it was trying to get onto eastbound state Highway 4 from Muir Road and found evidence of mail theft from the Muir Creek apartment complex on Morello Avenue and a homemade key allegedly used for unlocking mailboxes, according to police.
